Banish Bras at Bedtime

It’s been one of those extra long days, and it possibly even rolled into an extra long night. You barely make it to your boudoir as your sexy strut morphs into a series of black ops mission movements. You eventually face plant, star fish, or foetal fall and crawl into bed just as you are- without brushing your fury teeth (eeew!), washing off your bobby brown face paint (um… no!) or whipping off your straight jacket bra (fail!).

We’ve all done it, and let’s be honest… it’s never worth it! Dental hygiene and blackhead blasphemy aside, what are the implications of wearing a bra to bed? Here’s what the gurus have to say about why one should banish bras at bed time.

Although many woman believe that wearing a bra to bed improves and maintains overall perky puppies, there is no supporting medical evidence to back up this method of titty torture. Gravity will get us all, girls! In fact, sleeping in your bra can have a number of negative impacts.

1. It impedes circulation

Sleeping in a bra, especially underwire attire, can restrict blood circulation to your muscles and arms. Even wearing a snug fitted sports bra can damage breast tissue due to constantly constricted circulation.

2. It causes restlessness

Sleep is disturbed when your body is unable to fully relax while restricted by tight fitting bras and clothing. You may not actually notice, but even the slightest irritation, caused by tight clothing will deny you that blissful beauty reboot from a good nights’ sleep.

3. It may cause hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is a big word for dark spots, discoloration or uneven skin tone. Bras that are too tight, or constantly rubbing against your skin without moments of relief, can cause friction and irritation which damages your skin.

4. It may result in breast fungus

Regularly wearing a bra to bed can create the breast bacteria breeding ground for all kinds of fungi and infections. Bras keep our breasts warm and without ventilation, provide prime time and location for unpleasant germs to furiously multiply and intensify.

5. It can cause skin irritations

Hooks, straps, buckles and bows can cause skin lesions and even cysts if bras are worn for long periods. The skin becomes increasingly sensitive, and is therefore subject to infection if under constant irritation.

6. It affects the physiology of the breast

Wearing a constrictive bra to bed can negatively impact the lymphatic system. Without allowing your breasts to breath, a full time bra can restrict the blood flow and lymphatic drainage, which can lead to chronic inflammation and fluid retention. The lymph glands dispose of toxins which, if become trapped, can further affect the liver, kidneys and other body parts. Queue dark and gloomy music… this could potentially even lead to breast cancer.

It is also important to take note here, that sleeping with a bra can have the same negative affects as wearing an ill-fitted bra that is too tight.
