Satin Candy and the Robin Hood Foundation have been working together for many years providing donated bras for women in desperate need of them and with little or no means of buying them for themselves. These may be women in Homeless shelters, selfless home mothers to 5 or more orphaned kids and teenage girls from underprivileged backgrounds. To these women, whose priorities don’t factor in undergarments, the donated bras are like gold.
Satin Candy recently adopted another donation project in light of Mandela Day coming up on July 18th by collecting bras for the Esibusisweni Crèche and Orphanage which has 50 children attend their day care and 10 permanently staying on the premises – 29 of them, girls and 31 of them, boys.
Mrs Dlamini, the founder of Esibusisweni Crèche and Orphanage which is located in a rural area called Kwanyuswa in The Valley of 1000 Hills., says that their aim is to impart love, care and hope into the Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) sector.
They feed Orphaned and Vulnerable Children 1 meal a day, but wish to have the means to feed them healthy, nutritious and well balanced meals twice a day, 7 days a week. They also have very limited space that they operate in and are in desperate need of more rooms that will accommodate all the children, as well as additional toilets and bathrooms.
Christopher, a resident who lives in the area, decided to help feed these children by finding ingenious ways to raise money, sell repurposed junk and ensures that all the proceeds go to the children. His wife supports him while he focuses all his attention, energy and time on the Esibusisweni Crèche. Satin Candy recently handed over the collected bras that were donated by our customers to the Satin Candy stores and he cleverly packaged them up into twos and threes and sold the packs to the local community. This was just one part of Satin Candy’s drive to help empower and uplift the community in the lead up to Mandela Day.
The work that Christopher and Mrs Dlamini are doing touches our hearts and with your continuous bra donations, we can continue to support and help these courageous souls.
